Federal Bureau of Investigation Widens Washington Shooting Probe
This Thursday, the FBI raided a number of residences as it broadened its probe into a incident in Washington that occurred on the previous day, resulting in one national guard member dead and another in serious condition.
Alleged Shooter's Past and Home Raided
The search included a residence in the state of Washington linked to the accused, Afghan national Lakanwal, who investigators revealed was involved with a CIA-supported force in Afghanistan before arriving in the US in 2021 under a resettlement program.
FBI agents took possession of a variety of electronic devices from the residence, including mobile phones, portable computers, and iPads, and questioned his relatives, the head of the FBI Kash Patel stated during a media update.
National Guard Member Beckstrom Succumbs After Shooting
Later on Thursday, the President declared that Sarah Beckstrom, one of the National Guard soldiers injured in DC, had passed away.
Beckstrom, 20, was one of two members of the guard shot; the second soldier, Wolfe, 24 years old, is still fighting for his life, according to the President.
Trump Calls for Scrutiny of Afghan Refugees
The President has called for his administration to review every Afghan refugee who came to the US during Joe Biden’s administration, after authorities named the alleged perpetrator in the incident as a Afghan national.
DC Alleged Gunman Had CIA Connections, Officials Verify
The accused worked with agency-funded military units during the US war in the Afghan war, the agency has verified.
He, named as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29 years old, arrived in the America in the fall of 2021 under an immigrant program that gave some Afghans who had served the United States entry visas to the country.
The probe continues as authorities collect clues and interview individuals.
