Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport After Major Air Traffic Control Outage
Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.
Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
However, ongoing issues are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.
Officials had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be disrupted.
"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.
Source of the Issue
The problem was traced to the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
